Choosing the right work lights for a tractor depends on more than just the number of watts or lumens. The right LED work light should provide the appropriate beam pattern, sufficient illumination for the job, a suitable voltage range, and enough protection against dust, water, vibration and harsh working conditions.

At Eurotin, we supply LED work lights for agricultural vehicles in different sizes, power levels and beam patterns. The right choice depends mainly on where the light will be mounted, what area you need to illuminate and how the tractor is used.

What should you consider when choosing tractor work lights?

Before choosing a work light, check these six parameters:

  • Beam pattern – flood, spot or anti-glare
  • Light output – measured in lumens
  • Voltage – make sure the work light is compatible with the tractor’s electrical system
  • Ingress protection (IP rating) – important for agricultural work in rain, mud and dust
  • Dimensions and mounting – the light must fit the available mounting position
  • Power consumption – especially important when installing several work lights

1. Choose the right beam pattern

The beam pattern is one of the most important factors when selecting a work light for a tractor.

Flood beam – for illuminating a wide area

A flood beam spreads light over a relatively wide area. It is useful when you need to illuminate the ground, implements or the area immediately around the tractor.
Flood work lights are particularly useful for:

  • working with agricultural implements
  • loading and unloading
  • illuminating the area around the tractor
  • general night-time field work

Spot beam – for longer-distance illumination

A spot beam produces a narrower and more concentrated beam. It is useful when you need to see further ahead or illuminate a specific area at a greater distance.
For example, a spot work light can be useful when working in large fields or when you need additional long-range illumination. One example in our range is oval 24W 12-28V version with IP67-rated housing (EWL532824S)

Anti-glare beam – for controlled illumination

An anti-glare work light can provide a wider beam than a conventional spot light while still reaching further than a flood beam.
We offer anti-glare work lights designed to direct light towards the working area rather than unnecessarily into the field of vision of other vehicle operators. One example in our range uses a 60W LED system, a 10–32V supply and an IP67-rated housing (EWL585360AG).

2. How many lumens do tractor work lights need?

There is no single lumen value that is right for every tractor. A higher lumen rating does not automatically mean that a work light will provide better illumination. The beam pattern, optical design and mounting position also have a major influence on how effectively the light illuminates the working area.

For example, our range includes compact work lights with around 800-1000 lumens as well as higher-output models with several thousand effective lumens.
One example of compact work light is 15W version with 900 effective lumens in compact housing (EWLX1015) and one of higher-output models is 50W version with 4000 effective lumens (EWL515150).

For this reason, choose the light according to the job rather than choosing only by the highest lumen number.

3. What voltage should a tractor work light have?

Always check the voltage range before installing a work light.

Many agricultural work lights are designed for a wide voltage range, such as 9–32V or 10–32V, making them suitable for different vehicle electrical systems. We offer models operating from 9–36V.

If you are replacing an existing work light, check:

  • the tractor’s nominal electrical voltage
  • the voltage range specified for the LED work light
  • the current and power requirements
  • the wiring and connector

If you are unsure which voltage or connection you need, contact us.

4. What IP rating should a tractor work light have?

Agricultural machinery is exposed to rain, mud, dust, washing and large temperature variations. The protection rating is therefore an important specification.
For tractor work lights, look for a suitable IP rating that matches the conditions in which the lamp will be used.

For example, we offer work lights with IP67, IP68 and IP69K protection. Some models are therefore designed for demanding environments where protection against dust and water is particularly important.

The IP rating should always be considered together with the actual construction and intended application of the work light.

5. Where should work lights be mounted on a tractor?

The mounting position should correspond to the area you need to illuminate.

Front work lights

Front-mounted work lights are commonly used to illuminate the area in front of the tractor and the working area around front-mounted implements.
A wide beam can be useful when you need to illuminate a large area, while a more concentrated beam can be useful when longer-distance visibility is required.

Rear work lights

Rear-mounted lights are useful when working with:

  • trailers
  • cultivators
  • ploughs
  • mowers
  • other rear-mounted implements

For rear working areas, the beam should illuminate the implement and surrounding area without unnecessarily shining into the operator’s or other vehicle operators’ field of vision.

Side-mounted work lights

Side lights can help illuminate areas that are not sufficiently covered by front and rear lamps. They can be particularly useful when manoeuvring agricultural machinery at night.

6. How much power do tractor work lights use?

LED work lights are available in a wide range of power levels.

Our catalogue includes compact models such as 12W and 25W work lights as well as higher-output models of 40W, 50W, 60W and more.

When installing several lights, don’t look only at the power of an individual lamp. Calculate the total electrical load of all additional lights and make sure the tractor’s electrical system, wiring, fuses and switching equipment are suitable.

Which LED work light is suitable for a tractor?

The best choice depends on the application.

Tractor application What to look for
General field work Flood beam
Front-mounted implements Flood or spot beam
Rear implements Flood beam with suitable mounting position
Long-distance visibility Spot or longer-range beam
Working around the tractor Wide-area illumination – flood beam
